National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day (Children’s Day) is our national day dedicated to celebrating our children. Children’s Day is celebrated across the country each year on 4 August.

The 2024 theme is Strong in Culture, Stronger Together, which focuses on children's connection to culture and mob. It is important to reduce the impacts of colonisation, and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to improve their wellbeing, safety and development.

The first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day was held in 1988. The date was chosen to communally celebrate the birthdays of the young children taken from their families during the Stolen Generations before they knew their birthday.
